Cities I've walked with a camera

Some trips I planned around photography; others I simply brought the camera along and let the city decide. These are the places that ended up with a gallery of their own, in the order I visited them, each with its own story about the light, the weather and the streets that stayed with me.

Prague

Czech Republic

Where this whole habit really took hold. St. Vitus Cathedral over the castle grounds, Charles Bridge before the crowds arrive, the rooftops of Malá Strana leading the eye toward the castle. But the narrow streets that never make any list ended up being the photos I'm proudest of.

Netherlands

A city that rewards slow walking: canals bending around every corner, bicycles everywhere, and museums dense enough to fill days. Add a day trip to Haarlem and a mural near Leidseplein that became one of my favourite shots of the trip.

Belgium

Maybe the most beautiful city I've ever photographed. Canals lined with medieval brick, cobblestones that haven't changed shape in centuries, and a city small enough to walk end to end, where every direction still finds something worth stopping for.

A full day of shooting, cut short by the rain. The gallery is smaller for it, but the Eiffel Tower still looked like the Eiffel Tower, and the view from the top over a grey, glistening city was worth getting soaked for.
